Ethics In Business

I wanted to devote this post to ethics, because I feel that this world desperately needs more people aware of this. There is nothing that pains me more than unethical people. This is because typically when it comes to being unethical, it also means being dishonest and someone gets hurt in the process. It’s no secret that people with power or the ability to help people take shortcuts to maximize their own self-gain when they have the chance to truly improve someones life. Something as simple as contractors telling homeowners they need a repair when they don’t. Or when surgeons push for a surgery that’s minuscule in benefits but quite costly. There are millions of examples, and thousands of new ones being added everyday.

First and foremost, it comes from people just being bad people. However, your chances of being done wrong in this way are significantly reduced if you research the subject a bit more beforehand. I know I know, that’s not your job and that’s why you’re asking a “professional” for help in the first place. The fact of the matter is, you must do your own research. Figure out how things work, understand the basics, and ask questions! Unfortunately, at the end of the day you’re at the mercy of the person in front of you, while research will help. there is always room for error.

Take this ethical?pool cleaning company for example – I had the pleasure of working along side what I believe is the most honest and ethical company out there, especially in the pool industry. They provide monthly and weekly maintenance for homeowners. They are in a position where ethical behavior is very important. They have the chance to wrong people everyday, telling them they need repairs, or certain cleaning procedures, or using more expensive chemicals. Like I’ve said, the list goes on. Instead, this company is as honest as it gets. They tell it to you straight, at least from what I’ve seen. I’m an honest person myself so I always appreciate like-minded individuals. Nothing speaks louder than honest and ethical work. I’ve seen too many times, in all industries where the owner is simply there to make a quick profit and will start spewing lies like its nothing. I believe in karma, if you treat people well, then you will be treated well. It’s not always so black and white but the good majority of interactions in your life will be a direct reflection of how you treat others.

How To Be More Ethical

Maybe you’re reading this right now and you can remember a time where you weren’t making decisions with ethics in mind. Well then this section is for you, I’m going to give you a few ways to keep ethics in mind, even when life is tough.

  1. Be Honest. ?If you follow just one tip/rule at all, this one will keep you on track. Being honest is the easiest way to make ethical decisions. Tell people hot it is, don’t sugar coat anything. They will appreciate you much more for this.
  2. Think about others before you make actions. It’s always important to think about the person who your decision or words will affect. Avoid personal biases, make decisions that benefit both parties but keep them in mind just a little more. Like I said, this will come back to you in some other interaction in life. Don’t be worried to take a slightly less position than your customer.
  3. Put yourself in their shoes. What decision would you want done if you were the customer and they were the business owner with this decision? Doing this little mental exercise usually puts things in perspective and outlines the most ethical decision.

Being ethical is not difficult, it takes the same amount of effort to be a bad person as it does to be a good person. Start looking at life with a mindset of, “whose life can I make better?” and trust me, you’ll be much happier with yourself than you would if you made a few hundred or thousand more dollars. Money isn’t everything.

I hope this was useful to some of you, contact me here.

It’s been a while and time for a new post. I want to share with you a strange experience that others ought to know about.

I’ve been finding myself getting lost in thought quite often. I’m not complaining but when it comes to staying focuses and on task, this can become an issue. I always find my way back but sometimes it’s more difficult than others. I think this is due to a few factors:

This is something that can’t be overlooked. Hunger has been known to stop armies in their tracks. If you’re like me, you have a hard time eating when you’re supposed to. I often get too busy that I simply forget about eating, which is crazy because it’s the most important thing we all do, day in and day out.

Sleep is critical, this is something I’m pretty good with but sometimes there are exceptions. I ALWAYS strive for 8 hours, although sometimes I come up short..

If you’re not getting 8 hours of sleep, you’re doing your body a disservice. Even if you tell yourself “oh I’m fine with 5 or 6”, “my body doesn’t need 8”. Trust me.. IT DOES.

This one is self explanatory, drink more water or it will drink you. Ever since I’ve increased my water intake, everything has improved. EVERYTHING.

These three factors alone will improve focus, productivity, you name it. If you’re missing out on even one of these, you’re severely hindering what your performance could be. I highly recommend taking a step back and giving yourself and honest review, where could you improve? Maybe you need more sleep? Maybe you need to eat more like myself? Maybe you need ALL THREE.

Whatever it is, these changes will change your life.

I want to start off by saying sometimes, a break is the best thing you can do for yourself. When things just aren’t going your way, sometimes a simple break is in order.

I was recently having one of those weeks, everything was going wrong.

First, while traveling through Philadelphia, my rental car crapped out on me. Luckily the best towing service in Philadelphia came to my rescue.

If not for them, I would have been seriously late for my event!

Before I knew it, more problems popped up. I was soon looking at leak damages on a rental property I owned in Florida. I quickly jumped on it, I know the thing I can do is stay on top of the problems as they come up.

While I wasn’t aware of it at the time, things had just gotten started.

I soon received a phone call from my brother, he told me there was an issue back at home with the dog. She managed to get into a jar of peanut butter and wreak havoc. She not only ate the entire jar of peanut butter, but also let it all out over the carpets and furniture.

By this point, I realize what’s going on. I immediately began to assess the totality of the situations. I knew a break was in order.

You’re probably wondering what to do when a break is needed.

It’s simple but only you can answer that.

You need to find something you find enjoyment in, that will be the easiest way to take a break. It’s different for everyone and for me personally, breaks are taken through photography.

There is nothing more satisfying for me than to take pictures of various scenes. I don’t know why I’ve found release in photography but that’s not important. What’s important is knowing what you can do to better help yourself.

Help yourself.

Work has been CRAZY.

If you’ve been following my little website here, you’d know that last month I was promoted and started a new job. It has been very hectic but I am finally getting situated. My life has been a lot like that new song by Rihanna, work work work work. (or something like that)

I would love to be more active on my blog, like I said, I’ve always found peace and quiet with typing my thoughts on a page.

Like I said, things are finally starting to calm down. It was literally one thing after another and before I knew it, I was spending money on repairs like every weekend. I did get that storm damage taken care of that I mentioned in my last post. (Check it out here)

The last thing I have on my plate before my life is normalized again is getting my damn HVAC units replaced, can you believe those suckers crapped out on me??

If you’ve never had this happen, just know you’re lucky and I hope you never experience this. Luckily I am an Elite Club Member?with Robison & Robison Services, a local HVAC company in Manassas.

Regardless, here is a breath taking image I managed to sneak away from my life and take.

I think what I find so captivating about this image is the power of the sun. In perspective of this picture, it looks so small. I know you’re not supposed to look into the sun but I can’t help it sometimes. I don’t do it long enough to harm myself but I trust that you will keep this a secret for me.

If you haven’t learned it by now, I like to take pictures and talk about them

So today, I would like to share another picture and express myself.

I love my dog very much and I really enjoy taking pictures of her.

While I do like the snow, I don’t like it nearly as much as she does and I have a few assumptions as to why that might be..

First of all,

I don’t have fur.

I can only imagine having fur must make things quite uncomfortable at times.

It can be rare to get snow in Virginia, especially two feet like in the picture below. Virginia is not equipped to handle two feet or more of snow. Like I said, it’s quite rare.

But whether it’s snow, rain, wind, or all three together, storms can have quite an impact on things around them. You’d be surprised at exactly how heavy two feet of snow on parts of your roof is.

These winter storms sure left their mark and I had a roofing contractor come out and assess our roof and its damages.

I also believe it has something to do with the breed. German Shepherds are fantastic dogs and are quite adaptable to most surroundings.

If this is the first post you’re seeing, allow me to introduce myself and my wonderful blog. My name is Joe, I really enjoy writing and expressing my thoughts with words on a page.

I know, I’m a rare breed but it really helps me keep a level head (I recommend giving it a try)

Regardless, here I will post about anything I so desire.

To kick this off, here is a beautiful sunset taken with my Nikon camera
